LOURDES CELTIC LINK WITH DYSPRAXIA ASSOCIATION OF IRELAND

Lourdes Celtic FC is pleased to announce a formal link with Dyspraxia Ireland. LOURDES CELTICWITH DYSPRAXIA ASSOCIATION OF IRELANDDyspraxia is a little known condition that affects 6 % of children.

Until recently, when the word ‘Dyspraxia’ was mentioned, many people assumed you were talking about ‘Dyslexia’. This misconception is still prevalent today. Children look the same as their friends but can have real problems at home, in school and playing outside.

The child with ‘Dyspraxia’ may not be able to do things like kick or catch a ball despite him or her wanting to be like their friends and partake in the games .Their clumsiness and poor co-ordination can lead to bullying and social isolation leaving them with no friends .

Football in a safe environment will give these children the basic skills and confidence to be just like their peers and after a period of coaching will allow these children to go back out with confidence and enjoy the games with their friends . The purpose of this link between Lourdes Celtic and Dyspraxia Ireland is two fold.
One to give much needed exposure to Dyspraxia, this will be done by all Lourdes Celtic teams wearing the Dyspraxia Logo on their Jerseys ,this will be a gradual process taking over 12 months to complete. Secondly Lourdes Celtic will be setting up a’ Football For All ‘section within the club and one of its main focuses will be to give Children with Dyspraxia a safe and welcoming environment in which to play football.
This Section is being set up with the assistance of the FAI and in conjunction with their’ Football for All ‘program. An open Day will be held on Sunday the 21 March for player’s and coaches wishing to participate in this program of soccer for all.
This open day will be run in conjunction with the FAI.

To launch this initiative a photo shoot will be held in the Umbro showrooms in Ballymount on Thursday 11 March at 3pm, present will be FAI, Lourdes Celtic and Dyspraxia Ireland with former ‘Dublin Rose’ Hannah McDonnell ,who herself has ‘Dyspraxia and ‘Dyslexia and has been an inspiration to all sufferers of ‘Dyspraxia’
